SARB has built up an extensive collection of artefacts that include notes and coins as well as artworks that includes paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and tapestries. The current collection is regarded as being one of the best corporate collections in South Africa.
The SARB’s strategy is to support South African as well as African artists and promote the Bank’s image as a responsible corporate citizen that encourages cultural development in South Africa. At present, the collection comprises approximately 1015 artworks, 250 physical artefacts and 1250 coins. Many of these items are moveable and high-value artworks, which categorizes them as high-risk assets.
